Asta and Yuno serve as the central protagonists of Black Clover. Asta wields the rare five-leaf clover Grimoire, while Yuno is the rightful heir to the throne of the Spade Kingdom. Throughout the series, both characters display their strength against numerous formidable foes. Their friendly rivalry is well-known among fans, and despite being complete opposites, Asta and Yuno share a close bond. Growing up together in the same orphanage, they developed mutual respect as rivals. Asta always longed for magical abilities, which he lacked. However, his life took a significant turn when he acquired his five-leaf Grimoire.
Similarly, Yuno received a rare four-leaf clover Grimoire, often considered a symbol of good fortune. Yuno was recruited by the kingdom's most elite Magic Knight Squad, while Asta was chosen by the lowest-ranking squad. Nevertheless, this did not deter Asta from pursuing his dream of becoming the Wizard King. As they worked towards their shared goal, Asta and Yuno encountered numerous adversaries, growing stronger with each encounter. Reflecting on their journey from the Forsaken Realm to the Royal Capital, it is evident how far they have come. Despite their differences, they have always remained equals. But if they were to face each other in a direct battle, who would emerge victorious?

Asta's Physical Strength is Unmatched
Asta would undoubtedly have an advantage over Yuno when it comes to physical strength. Since Asta lacked any magic, he pushed himself to become stronger through relentless training, focusing on building his physical prowess. His efforts paid off, as he can perform over a thousand push-ups without stopping. Despite the considerable weight of the swords granted to him by his Grimoire, Asta wields them with ease. Additionally, his arm strength was enhanced by the Queen of Witches using Blood Magic when he was afflicted by Vetto's curse.
In contrast, Yuno was blessed with incredibly powerful wind magic. From a young age, he relied on his magic instead of physical strength for nearly everything. Even after becoming a Magic Knight, Yuno's overwhelming magic meant that he rarely needed to resort to physical attacks.

Yuno Has Mana, but Asta Relies on His Grimoire
Asta lacks mana entirely, but his Grimoire grants him the ability to nullify all forms of magic, no matter their strength. Additionally, unlike those who use magic and exhaust their mana during battle, Asta doesn't suffer from this weakness. He can continue fighting as long as he isn't physically drained. Although he cannot sense mana, Asta possesses the ability to sense ki, giving him an advantage against his opponents. Since Asta has no mana, enemies are unable to sense him, while Asta can detect them from afar. This allows him to launch sneak attacks against even the most formidable foes.
On the other hand, Yuno has an immense reserve of mana due to his royal heritage. He possesses the wind attribute, making his attacks highly adaptable and versatile. Wind mages are known for their heightened senses, including acute hearing, enhanced eyesight, and exceptional mana detection. Unlike Asta, who specializes in close combat, Yuno can engage enemies both up close and from a distance. He can cast two powerful spells simultaneously—an ability even elite mages struggle with. Moreover, the wind spirit assists him in battle, and Yuno excels at utilizing Mana Zone and wielding spirit magic.

Asta and Yuno Are Both Linked to Otherworldly Beings
Asta is the host of a low-ranking devil named Liebe, who wields Anti-Magic. Liebe, originally a devil from the lowest level of the underworld, resides in Licht's Grimoire and selected Asta as his next wielder. Like Asta, Liebe lacks mana and cannot use magic, allowing him to utilize Anti-Magic without suffering any weakening effects from mana depletion. Asta's ability to harness Anti-Magic is solely due to being chosen by Liebe. Through Devil Union, Asta can further amplify his anti-magic abilities to such an extent that he can nullify powerful attacks like a Gravity Singularity and imbue his weapons with Anti-Magic.
In contrast, Yuno was chosen by the wind spirit Sylph. His selection by Sylph is due to a combination of strength and luck. Sylph once mentioned that Yuno was chosen specifically for his unmatched magic and talent. Sylph constantly remains by Yuno's side, ready to assist him in battle whenever needed. Just as Asta and Liebe share the same element, Yuno and Sylph also share the same attribute, granting Yuno the power of Sylph for his own use. This shared connection allows Yuno to easily overpower his adversaries.

Asta vs. Yuno: Which One Would Emerge Victorious?
Asta and Yuno are both incredibly powerful, and if they were to face each other in an intense one-on-one battle, both would sustain significant damage. Since joining the Magic Knights Squad, they have grown immensely and faced numerous tough battles, particularly during the Spade Kingdom invasion, where they fought against enemies that even the Squad Captains struggled against. In a direct confrontation, Asta could partially nullify Yuno's wind magic, but not entirely, given Yuno's superior speed. Additionally, Asta's immense physical strength would pose a considerable challenge to Yuno.
Even if Yuno utilized powerful abilities like Mana Zone and Spirit of Boreas, Asta could potentially neutralize them by merging with Liebe, whose strength surpasses that of Sylph. When it comes to magical stages, Yuno is a Stage 0 mage—the highest rank attainable for a mage; however, conventional magic falls short against devils. As an Arcane mage and the host of a devil, Asta has an inherent advantage. Despite being one of the strongest mages in the series, Yuno would most likely lose in a fight against Asta. That said, even if Asta were to emerge victorious, it would come at a high cost, as defeating Yuno would be far from easy.
